Resurgent Demichelis: “My time has come”
27.10.2006
Magath: ‘I’m very pleased with our defence, especially Martin Demichelis. He was a class act today’
‘I was trying to hard. I let the pressure get to me, I thought about nothing but football, and forgot another life out there. I was mentally shot. But now I’m a lot calmer’

Nothing but praise for defenders
Nifty dribbling, fast attacking runs, shots from all directions, in the air and low on the ground. Daniel Van Buyten and Martin Demichelis were up to the job. Their timing was immaculate every time things got dangerous in front of the Reds goal. Bayern’s back two threw themselves in the line of fire, won the ball with dramatic sliding tackles and reigned supreme in the air.
Magath: ‘I have nothing but praise for the central defence’
Van: ‘With each game we play we are growing closer and closer together and we talk to each other a lot. Micho stays back more often, holding his position’
This is one reason why Bayern’s defence is ‘Looking much better at the moment’
Kahn: ‘Everyone sticks to their position, everyone is focused on their own role – canceling out the opposition’s attack and keeping a clean sheet’
If the situation allows, Kahn sees nothing wrong with the central defender taking part in an attacking move. Van Buyten and Demichelis are particularly fond of joining the melee in the opposition’s penalty area for set pieces, keen to take advantage of their aerial skills. This tactic almost won Bayern the game against Lisbon when Sporting’s keeper Riccardo was forced into a reaction save in the 89th minute after a headed shot from Demichelis.

As of this year, the date will always have a positive aspect for Martin Demichelis: on 11 September 2007, the Bayern centre-half returned to the
Recognised centre-half
“Micho“ is certainly on a roll right now. The 26-year-old is an ever-present for Bayern this term, and the Reds have the second-best defensive record in the league with just three goals conceded in six matches.
“I’ve fought a long time for this chance,” the Argentine declared on Tuesday. He arrived in 2003 from Buenos Aires outfit River Plate as a recognised centre-back, but has spent most of his time in Munich as a holding midfielder, “although I’ve always been convinced I’d give my best as a defender.“
Strong alongside Lucio
Demichelis declared his delight that “the coach has put his faith in me“ and now hopes to repay that faith with rock-solid consistency. An uncompromising tackler, strong in the air and no longer afflicted by occasional lapses in concentration, his partnership with current Brazil skipper Lucio has produced three clean sheets in the league and one in the UEFA Cup.
It helps that the South Americans can converse in a common language. “We have a good relationship and talk a lot,” Demichelis reported. “Games can be won and lost in the space of a second, so it’s important to get the message across.“ Helpfully, Lucio has spent much less of his time foraging upfield this term. “He’s charging forward a lot less then before. I’m always happier when Lucio sticks alongside me.“
Support for Sosa
Unsurprisingly, Demichelis describes himself as “highly satisfied“ at the moment, although he was quick to point out that Bayern “haven’t won anything yet. We have to keep up the hard work.” The likeable player is also working hard to boost the morale of injured fellow countryman and summer signing José Ernesto Sosa. “I’m talking with José a lot, he’s had a bit of bad luck recently,” reported Micho, himself in the same position as Sosa four years ago.
Demichelis is convinced the 22-year-old Sosa has “a great future in front of him. Once he’s fit, he’ll prove to everyone why he was brought to Bayern.“ Micho has shown the way, responding to his devastating omission from the

Reaction to Bayern v MSV
Hitzfeld: We lacked precision and creative spark
08.12.2007
Bayern dominated possession against struggling MSV Duisburg on Saturday, but failed to take the handful of chances they created and had to settle for a goalless draw. Ottmar Hitzfeld declared himself “disappointed with the result, we wanted to make sure of first place over Christmas. But it’s our own fault.“ The Bayern coach was especially unhappy with his side’s first half display: “We showed no passion, we wanted to win the game by playing pretty stuff.”
Reaction to Bayern v MSV
Ottmar Hitzfeld: “Naturally, I’m disappointed with the result, we wanted to win and make sure of first place over Christmas. But it’s our own fault. We found it very difficult today, especially after we again failed to take our early chances.
Martin Demichelis: “Obviously, we weren’t happy in the dressing room afterwards. We’ve thrown away two points. I’ve not kept count, but we must have had ten decent chances. We gave it our best shot and tried everything we knew, but it was one of those days when it wouldn’t go in.“

Die Konstante Demichelis / Steady Demichelis (kicker)
Congratulations Micho!
The Gods of Football (otherwise known in as Kicker) have just released an article about the most steady / constant players in the first half of this year's Bundesliga season ---
--- and they chose Martín Demichelis as the leading example!
***we're so proud of you Micho!!!*** ***blows kisses***
They also exist this season - the perennial players. In the first half of this season there were seven players who did not miss a single minute with their teams. A remarkable number of defensive specialists are among them. Martín Demichelis of FC Bayern, who only got to play sporadically in the past few years, has proven himself this season and has developed into an indespensable giant for the German Recordholders.
In addition to the Argentine, Malik Fatih (
He has finally established himself. Martin "Micho" Demichelis. The 26 year-old has already stood 1530 minutes on the field for the German Recordholders, and was not substituted one single time. Last season the Argentinian National Player played in 26 games for the FC Bayern, where he was substituted out three times and substituted in eight times.
